KANSAI RAILWAY PASS is convenient and easy to use!

KANSAI RAILWAY PASS is a special ticket offered only to travelers visiting Japan for sightseeing. It allows unlimited ride on all metro and private railways in Kansai, in Osaka, Kyoto, Kobe/Himeji (Hyogo), Nara, Wakayama, and Shiga. JR, Randen (Keifuku Railway) and some other trains are not available. Buses are not available.

  • The pass is all you need to enjoy all metro and private railways across Kansai. You do not need to purchase a ticket every time and transit is also easy.
  • The pass comes with special offers at major facilities and stores along the railways. (See the page below or respective area pages for more detail.)

    Guide to facilities offering perks

  • The pass can be used from Nankai Railways' Kansai Airport Station, on arrival at the Kansai International Airport. (A separate fee is required for express train Rapi:t.)

Caution

  • KANSAI RAILWAY PASS is a special ticket offered only to those traveling to Japan for sightseeing.
  • It will be available at sales spots in Japan from April 1, 2024.
  • As long as the pass has not expired, it can be used on non-consecutive days. (For instance, you can use the 3-day PASS for three days on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.)
  • In Japan, each person can purchase up to three passes.

*Purchasing a combination of different tickets is OK. Purchase is limited to 3 tickets of all types together.

You have to satisfy one of the following terms to purchase the pass.

  1. You are a non-Japanese tourist visiting Japan with a short-term stay status. (You need to present your passport to purchase and receive the pass.)
  2. You are a Japanese national living outside of Japan. (You need to be an overseas resident with a permanent resident status or be a holder of a permanent residence card. You need to present a personal ID document.)
  3. You are accompanying a person satisfying (1) or (2) above as a guide. (You need to purchase the pass together with the person satisfying (1) or (2) above.)

  • A voucher with a QR code will be issued to be exchanged with a pass. Exchange the voucher with the pass at the specified spot in Japan. Make sure to present your passport when exchanging the voucher.

How to use the pass

  • Insert the pass in the ticket gate with the arrow on the front pointing forward.
  • The day of travel and the name of the station where you begin your travel will be printed on the back of the pass. One day is counted as the duration from the first train to the last train in a day (not for 24 hours from the first use).
  • Insert the ticket in the ticket gate when exiting. Be sure to take your pass with you once you have passed.
  • Some ticket gates are not automated. In such a case, please note the date of use on the back of the pass with a permanent ink pen and show it to an attendant.
  • If the pass becomes unusable due to magnetic strip failure during the journey, the following stations will reissue a new pass.

How to use the pass for special offer at facilities

  • At select facilities, you can enjoy special offers by presenting the pass.
  • The service detail is subject to change without notice.
  • The special offers from facilities are valid only on the day the pass is used.
  • Special offers are valid for only one person per pass.
  • For more details, such as business hours, contact the facilities of the special offer.

Caution

  • The pass cannot be reissued at ticket gates and ticket counters.
  • If you lose the pass, it will not be reissued.
  • Once you start using the pass, no refund will be made.
  • Refund for the pass can be made at the spot it was purchased, as long as the pass is unused. (A handling charge may be incurred.)
  • Passes exchanged with the voucher cannot be refunded.
  • Any misused ticket will be invalidated and confiscated, and additional fares will be charged according to the rules of the respective railway operators. Children's ticket will emit a beep when they pass through the ticket gate.
  • When using a reserved-seat express train of the Nankai Electric Railway, Kinki Nippon Railway, Semboku Rapid, and Keihan Electric Railway, please purchase a separate express ticket, special coach ticket, and/or reserved seat ticket.
  • Travelling outside the pass zone will incur additional fares. Please ask an attendant staff.
  • Please note that one day is counted as the duration from the first train to the last train in a day (not for 24 hours from the first use). Even if you board a train after midnight, you will be considered to have boarded the train on the previous day.
  • Customers staying in Japan for a short term for language lessons and work, and customers with long-stay visa (for working holiday, work, marriage, etc.) cannot purchase or use the pass.
  • Do not put the magnetic pass close to a magnet.
