The main hall, which is a national treasure, contains the Genji-no-ma, where Lady Murasaki penned the world’s oldest novel ‘The Tale of Genji’, and the temple is also famous for housing Japan’s oldest national treasure Tahoto (mani-jewelled pagoda), and for its beautiful autumnal foliage.
