Koyasan Kongobu-ji Temple

Known as the main temple of Koyasan Shingon Buddhism with 3,600 temples throughout Japan, the main hall is a well-known cultural asset of the prefecture. The present temple is a result of a merger between Seigonji Temple, built by Hideyoshi Toyotomi and dedicated to his late mother, and the nearby Kozanji Temple in 1593. The main hall was rebuilt in 1863.
